054. Air
Logical

Vala's head is heavy in my lap, her hair and breath tickling my arm. There's an entire ship, and she takes a nap on top of me. Mitchell snickers when he ducks his head into the cargo bay, Sam is silenced by my glare, but it is Teal'c's pointedly raised eyebrow that heats my cheeks. Damn them. Damn her.

She shifts in her sleep, lips opening slightly, breath expelling in a soft sigh. Her skin is pale, like the coffee creamer Sam pours into her mocha-blend. A strand of dark hair shifts over her face and her nose twitches. Her eyes flicker behind their lids, her upper lip curls in distress; she's pulling out of her peaceful slumber.

Sense dictates I brush the hair off her face—to keep her quiet and asleep. It's practical: if she's asleep she can't proposition me.

But my fingers stay in her hair, gently stroking, until she settles down again, her chest expanding rhythmically in shallow breaths. Vala's lips close, pursing slightly in the memory of a kiss. My hand keeps her hair out of her face because it's logical to keep her asleep.

Though, the hitch and flutter in my chest isn't logical.

With the exception of This Empty Apartment, my Daniel/Vala stuff is fairly lighthearted. It's all the other stuff that is angst-ridden. Sometimes I look back and think, "That could should have been more angsty."

I don't know what it is that makes me want to go all fluffy with Daniel/Vala, either. My current series is the most angsty I've done with them. It's gotta be with Daniel getting stabbed and whatnot... but mostly it's all insane amounts of fluff. Then last week I just wrote a Sparky fic that was total fluff. Maybe I've just gone soft?

Sometimes it's the pairing (*doublechecks it's usage*). Daniel and Vala are pretty funny in canon. Yes, there's some angst, but Vala tends to quell her own issues and focus on the surface—naturally the fandom would do the same thing. I'm not surprised by the number of light and fluffy Daniel/Vala fics.

Even so, I have an angsty one brewing. Nothing's been written yet, but there is angst on the horizon.

So true! Hence why he gets so upset when she burns in Avalon and then when she gets zapped in Beachhead, he actually LOOKS upset. He doesn't want to want her and yet she's gotten under his skin. Heh. I look forwards to what the new season brings us in regards to Vala and Daniel :)

I have a lot of thoughts about why he was such a jerk to her in "Beachhead" and I'm hoping to eventually put them in a fic. Basically, I think it has to do with Sam and not wanting her to know how much he really likes Vala. In the previous episode, he wasn't acting as annoyed at Vala so his behavior has to be because something changed. What changed? Sam showed up. It makes perfect sense.

Ok lemme clarify that it was his actions in Beachhead which upset me but his actions in Company of Thieves that really pissed me off cuz they reminded me of what happened to me in Junior High School.

Awwww. I love that. Especially that last line. Hah Daniel, she snuck in under your skin, didn't she now? She seems to have a habit of doing that. I was rewatching Beachhead Friday and I realized what a real bastard Daniel was to her before she got zapped by the rings. No wonder he looks so forlorn when he wakes in the infirmary. Serves him right, he didn't have to be THAT mean. *growls* Sorry mini rant over.
